Our mission at Caelum Diagnostic Solutions (CDS) is to accelerate cancer care by delivering immediate diagnostic biopsy results. CDS is a seed-stage startup company, developing a rapid cancer biopsy analysis tool that delivers a definitive diagnosis on cancer biopsies in less than ten minutes, while the patient is still on the procedure table. Tissue biopsies, followed by histopathology analysis, are presently the standard of care for the definitive diagnosis of cancer. However, they are labor intensive, take up to five business days or longer for results to be returned, are performed manually, and can introduce the possibility for human error. The interval between the biopsy procedure and the diagnosis is associated with delayed patient treatment, unnecessary repeat biopsies, increased patient risk, increased cost of care, and potentially lower quality outcomes. This creates a compelling problem for hospitals and medical centers conducting biopsies.
